The evolution of sampling

These days many aspiring artists dont look to far to find the new big beat, they simply look around them and find a relatively recent popular song and sing over it. Almost riding the coattails of that song. Prime examples are Kanye West - Stronger and every one of the A Millie videos. This is the new wave of mixtape culture because you do not need any legal licensing agreements.

Another interesting thing I heard the other day, two artists coming out with a song at the same time that use the same pop sample.

Kristina DeBarge - Goodnight

Wale ft Lady GaGa - Chillin

The evolution of the Analogy

The sheer amount of hip hop out there has led to the creation of some truly original and innovative analogies. No longer is it passable to be "on a roll like butter." Rappers be getting their innovation on faster than IBM.

For some tight examples, check out a Wale mixtape or two; he has a penchant for SNES-related rhymes. Also, Kanye's new project Big Sean takes some unorthodox angles when he gets down.
